About Us
The Ride to Conquer Cancer
Now that we have almost recuperated I just wanted to thank you all for your support in fundraising for this great cause.
In total the Ride to Conquer Cancer raised $4.7 million dollars for QIMR. The biggest figure in QLD history!
Our team managed to raise $19,723.30, which is a great effort for 7 of us. Thank you for your donations.
Finally I can now express my feelings in words.
It was by far one of the best and challenging experiences of my life to date. The distance was a total of 236km which was a lot more than we thought it would be. You may not agree but 36km doesn’t really make a lot of difference when you have already gone that far!
The ride course was very hilly and very challenging. I had a bit of a whinge at first but then I remembered that when you are diagnosed with cancer you don’t get to choose an easy path. A cancer diagnosis comes with many challenges you just need to face, so I changed my attitude and kept repeating “at least I don’t have cancer” and “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. I have always known that you don’t have great achievements in life without first putting in the effort. I admit it was harder to maintain the positive attitude on Day 2 when the legs, body and mind were tired and we were being pelted with cold rain.
One thing that kept me going on Day 2 was Robert, a cancer survivor. Emma met him along the road on Day 1 and they rode most of the way together. Every time I felt like complaining I thought of his determination and courage to get through his fight with Lymphoma. He bought the bike he was riding when he was first diagnosed and we celebrated his 5000km on it out on the road. He rode his bike all through his treatment. He thinks it helped him beat cancer. He was just one of the courageous and inspiring people we met. Emma, Robert and I crossed the finish line together. It was a very emotional moment for us. We cried and hugged each other in celebration of our great achievement.
We had the good fortune to meet some amazing people who despite enormous challenges in their life choose to live! I was inspired by the cancer survivors, support crew and participants I had the opportunity to speak to. It was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.

Thank you all for your support, I couldn’t have done it without you.
